My life in the Corp

Warming up before the "Desert Bowl" game at Edwards Airforce Base in 1952. The game was televised and fortunately we won.
During the Korean War in the 1950's athletics played an important role on many Military Bases. Former College athletes and All Americans through out the U.S.A. played on bases where the teams were supported by their Base Commander. The Marine Corp base, "Barstow Bulldogs", where I was stationed, had: basketball, baseball, wrestling, boxing, and football teams.
I was on the football and wrestling teams. We represented the 11th naval District and won our division. Some of the All American and professional players that I was fortunate to compete against were: "Big Daddy" Lipscombe of the Pendelton Marines. After his honorable discharge played for the LA Rams. All American Billy Wade from Vanderbuilt who after his hitch in the Navy went to the Chicago "Bears". Our team was honored to haveJim Weatheral. All American from the University of Oklahoma. As a member of the wrestling team, I won the Southern Pacific Coast AAU championship in Los Angeles and placed 2nd in the Pacific Coast championship held at UCLA. It was an honor to represent the United States Marine Corp.
I
We played in the "Desert
Bowl" at Edwards Air Force in Southern California. Because the game was Televised they dropped the ball from a Helicopter to start the "kick off."
It was a great time to be alive. If any of my ol' "jarhead" teammates read this website, please contact me.
